Biogasmax at the Geneva Motor Show

Of the major world motor shows, the Geneva Motor Show is the most interesting as far as clean cars are concerned. The “International Advanced Mobility Forum: IAMF”, a conference on the fringes of this show, introduced the Biogasmax project.

Lombardy joins Biogasmax

At the last steering committee in Berne at the end of January 2008, the Biogasmax partners were able to welcome the region of Lombardy amongst their number. This region of Italy, one of the most highly industrialised and a very large consumer of fuels, has identified natural gas and biomethane as being fuels of the future whilst waiting for the industrial development of hydrogen research. It is interesting to note that today, a biomethanisation project can result in a political initiative...

Oslo opts for methanisation of urban waste

The capital of Norway is putting in place a biomethanisation project. Although Norway has major energy resources, in particular gas, Oslo has made this choice in response to the problem of management of urban waste and that of reducing CO2 emissions in public transport.

Gothenburg gasification of wood waste

Gothenburg is conducting several projects which aim to develop usage of biomethane, and in particular biogas. As a partner it is very active in the exchange of experience within Biogasmax, and today is joining GoBiGas (a gasification plant for wood waste) in order to produce more biomethane. As well as this, the environmental concerns of the town are shown by the creation of the “Gothenburg Prize for Sustainable Development,” awarded this year to Mr Al Gore for his involvement in the...

The Biogasmax Friends Day report (30.01.08)

At its last steering committee, Biogasmax organized a special day dedicated to the Biogasmax Friends. Our Bern partners welcomed us warmly and offered us a technical tour of the bus re-fuelling station (Bern-Mobil) and of the wastewater treatment and bio-methanisation plant (Arabern). They also honoured us with a political delegation from the city of Bern with an interest in the urban environment. Each partner presented its «bio-methane for vehicle» project step-by-step. After that, a...

Increasing interest for bio-methane in the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is becoming more and more interested in bio-methanisation and in bio-methane for vehicle use. This renewable « natural gas » has already attracted the attention of the UK government. English companies with an interest in natural gas and renewable energies, supported by John Baldwin (Managing Director of CNG Services Ltd), are hoping to obtain the same financial status for this « green » gas as that accorded to «green» electricity. During the Biogasmax Friends Day...

The "bio" label for bio-methane vehicles

Vehicle bio-methane is a first-generation bio-fuel that continues to use its “bio" label. As you may already know, bio-methane is obtained from the methanization of urban organic waste and has no direct effect on farm land contamination. It has no polluting effect in water and in air quality when used correctly and best of all, it offers a clean bill of health. Studies show that bio-methane could supply 20% of the global fuel consumption in Europe; therefore, there are many reasons to...

Bio-methane, a fuel in search of its french fiscal status

On July 16, 2007, the French Environmental Ministry (MEDD) informed the Lille Metropolitan Community Authorities (Metropole Communauté Urbaine) that bio-methane, which is classified as natural gas for vehicles, will be taxed via the natural gas consumption tax (TICGN). Whilst it is possible to compare bio-methane with natural gas in terms of quality, there is one major difference; biogasis entirely renewable in environmental terms, in contrast to its counterpart! The Lille Metropolitan...
