Dual fuel Diesel-Biomethane for road transport
A dual fuel Diesel - Biomethane system for road transport is a relevant means of using biomethane as a fuel for heavy duty trucks. This has been experienced and developed by Hardstaff Group (U.K.) since the early 2000 through the so-called technology OIGI®. Such trucks use Diesel for starting and then run with biomethane. This technology is can use either Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) including biomethane, maximising the environmental benefits associated with this fuel. OIGI® is adapted to Euro 3, 4 or 5 electronically controlled engines with a diesel only fall back mode. Trevor Fletcher, who intervened in the European Conference on Biomethane Fuel in Göteborg last September, said: "There are numerous clean technologies and fuels for transport. The best one is the one which is the most adapted to each use and situation. Dual fuel Diesel-Biomethane is certainly a very good solution for road transport and use in trucks".
