Biogasmax at the Geneva Motor Show

CIMG1981bgx

Of the major world motor shows, the Geneva Motor Show is the most interesting as far as clean cars are concerned. The “International Advanced Mobility Forum: IAMF”, a conference on the fringes of this show, introduced the Biogasmax project.

The Geneva Motor Show is an important moment for clean cars. Alongside stands of prestigious vehicle brands, clean cars running on natural gas and biomethane (ethanol E85) as well as electric cars and hybrids were all represented. This resulted from the work of e’mobile (www.e-mobile.ch), a Swiss organisation founded in 1980 which works to bring clean and energy- efficient vehicles to the market.

E’mobile was also the co-organiser of the IAMF conference and it invited the Biogasmax consortium to introduce its activities.

The participation of Biogasmax in this kind of international event shows the increasing interest in biomethane as a credible alternative to fossil fuels.

Important to note in this conference as well was the presentation of a wide-ranging comparative study on the emissions of pollutants made by modern vehicles, whether run on classic fuels or alternatives. This study, conducted by the EMPA research institute (Federation of Swiss Polytechnics), shows that, on the one hand, the European references for testing vehicle emissions are not the most appropriate, and that on the other hand there are wide disparities between the emissions of vehicles, including between clean vehicles. Finally, this study suggests that the particle filters on diesels are not very efficient for fine particles.
