New development for bio-methane in France
The French Department of Industry will soon allow bio-methane producers the right to distribute bio-methane within natural gas networks. This decision is expected to be finalized in the summer of 2008!
The French Department of Industry instituted an official evaluation procedure along with two expert organisations: The French Agency of Health & Environmental Security and Employment (AFSSET) and the National Institute of Environmental industry and Risk (INERIS). The first step with regard to this inter-relationship is expected in December 2007, and will bear fruit during the summer of 2008 during the last stage of the evaluation with an on-site analysis campaign in Lille.
Bio-methane is already incorporated into the natural gas network in several countries such as Germany and Switzerland. In the European context, it was urgent for the French public authorities to find a solution concerning this matter. At the end of November 2007, the city of Toulouse will join the Lille Metropolitan Community Authorities (Lille Métropole Communauté Urbaine) to receive approval from the French Department of industry to use the natural gas network for the bio-methane issued from their organic wastes.
